The Bismarck Mandan Metropolitan Planning Organization (BMMPO) and The City of Mandan are conducting a Corridor Study for the Memorial Highway. The consulting team that will complete the study consists of Kadrmas, Lee & Jackson, Inc. along with RDG Planning & Design and Agency MABU. The Mandan Memorial Highway Corridor Study begins at Main Avenue in Mandan and ends at Liberty Memorial Bridge, and includes land areas north and south of the Memorial Highway.
The purpose of the Memorial Highway Corridor Study is to develop a master plan for addressing a variety of issues including existing and future land use, traffic and safety improvements, drainage improvements, creating an “identify” or sense of place, pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, and future roadway reconstruction alternatives. Roadway reconstruction could include additional turn lanes, traffic signals, lighting, revising access to businesses, sidewalks, landscaping, and other public issues.
The roadway is currently under the jurisdiction and maintenance of the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT). The NDDOT is considering reconstructing the roadway in the future, possibly in 2016 if funding becomes available. Final decisions regarding the corridor study will be made in late 2010 by the City of Mandan with input from the public, the NDDOT, and the BMMPO. Your input will help shape the master plan resulting from the Mandan Memorial Highway Corridor Study.
